Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the European Neuroendocrine Association (ENEA), it is my pleasure to invite you to the 6th Workshop of the ENEA that will be held in Athens, Greece, 5-7 December 2019. Previous ENEA Workshops had allowed to update participants on specific pituitary disorders such as Cushing’s disease (2009, Naples, Italy), aggressive pituitary tumors (2009, Munich, Germany), hypopituitarism (2013, Tel Aviv, Israel), acromegaly (2015, Marseille, France) or hyperprolactinemia (2017, Saint-Petersburg, Russia). The upcoming Athens 2019 Workshop will be devoted to parasellar lesions, a very challenging topic that is unfrequently covered with such completeness. Indeed, these often severe – albeit usually benign – tumors, cysts or pseudotumors encompass various lesions ranging from craniopharyngiomas to hypophysitis or many other diseases sometimes deemed too rare to be given the attention they deserve due to their invalidating consequences.

Not only will this meeting address a large variety of lesions but these conditions will be discussed by a large panel of internationally recognized experts in a multidisciplinary approach. The most updated clinical, hormonal, histological, or radiological aspects of these heterogeneous lesions will be discussed by renowned adults’ or pediatric endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, pathologists, neuroradiologists of extensive experience. Still more importantly, pathophysiology and mechanisms will be discussed in light of the most recent advances in the field and the basic breakthroughs that will allow us to improve our understanding or the therapies of these often perplexing lesions will be covered by outstanding translational scientists in a bench-to-bedside perspective.

The ENEA is thankful to Dr. Gregory Kaltsas for efficiently coordinating the organization of this fascinating meeting, and to the Society’s Workshop and Study Committee led by Prof. Günter Stalla to have put together in close collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee and the support of the Hellenic Endocrine Society such an exciting and comprehensive program. Through the valuable input of the EYRC (ENEA Young Researchers Committee), our younger colleagues from the Society have also played a pivotal role at all steps the preparation of this Workshop. As participants, from geographical and professional backgrounds that we hope as varied as possible, you will in fact play the most pivotal role – through the interactions you will create, the living science or clinical experience you will share, and the networking you will be able to develop – in making this meeting a success.  How could it be otherwise under the auspices of Athena, goddess of wisdom and of the Areopagus of all Olympian gods?

So please save the dates on your agenda today to make sure you will take advantage of this unique opportunity of sharing knowledge and experience with a number of colleagues and experts on these always challenging parasellar lesions. See you in Athens!

President of the ENEA
