The Center operates in the framework of the activities of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Medical students come into contact with patients who are monitored in clinics or inpatients and become familiar with the symptoms, clinical signs, diagnostics, and treatment of these relatively rare diseases. The Professors and the Academic Scholars of the Center participate in the education of the students by conducting specific courses as well as in the education of third-year and six-year students of the Department of Pathophysiology and of 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine of the University of Athens.
Four physicians specialize in Endocrinology and are directly involved in patient monitoring, interdisciplinary boards, conducting screenings and training courses as analysed in the training program. Also, physicians specializing in Internal Medicine come in contact and get familiarized with patients suffering from NETs.
During the last years, the Center has the responsibility of organizing an annual training program (conducted under the auspices of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine) and is addressed to physicians involved in the treatment of these tumors with international participation (Mini Masterclass). In addition, members of the Center participate with invited lectures at training seminars at national and international events.
In recent years, the Center has the responsibility of organizing an annual training program (conducted under the auspices of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine) and is addressed to physicians involved in the treatment of these tumors with international participation (Mini Masterclass). The aim is to familiarize and educate health professionals, inside and outside the Center, about neuroendocrine neoplasms in order to improve and render the management of patients more effective.
In addition, members of the Center participate as invited speakers at training seminars at domestic and international events. The head of the Center also participates as an instructor in an approved University of the United Kingdom.
In addition, there is continuous collaboration with relevant Centers of Excellence abroad in order to promote education and training while members from other centers abroad cooperate with our centre to promote education and research (eg Daskalakis Kosmas, Surgeon, Uppsala Center of Excellence).
